Building the evidence engine for the care economy

Care work has long been undervalued because it has been under-measured. BIHD is working to change that through three connected initiatives.

Longitudinal record

A longitudinal record of what training achieves

We are building what we intend to be the world's largest longitudinal record of how care-work training translates into real outcomes for professionals, for the people they serve, and for the communities around them.

Framework

The Care Quotient (CQ)

We are pioneering the Care Quotient, a framework for defining and measuring the human capabilities at the heart of quality care. CQ gives educators, employers, and policymakers a shared language for a skill set that has never had one.

Flagship annual index

The Human Premium Index (HPI)

Our flagship annual index tracks how societies value and invest in human-centered work. It is designed to serve as the global benchmark for the care economy and to cultivate what we call "the human premium": the lasting value of work that only people can do.

The measurement layer

Two connected instruments

The Care Quotient (CQ) Scale measures the trainable capability of an individual practitioner to deliver human care and judgment. The Human Premium Index (HPI) measures the state of the care economy and the human premium across markets and nations.

Micro-instrument

The Care Quotient (CQ) Scale

A named, validated, defensible construct that yields a single headline score and a diagnostic profile of five underlying facets.

Macro artifact

The Human Premium Index (HPI)

An annual composite that measures the state of the care economy across markets and populations, powered partly by aggregated CQ data.

CQ generates proprietary data no one else holds; the Index gives that data visibility, citations, and policy relevance; the Index's authority makes CQ the default standard; and wider CQ adoption enlarges the dataset that makes the Index more authoritative.
